Jerry Zucker Middle School

6401 Dorchester Road, North Charleston

The Jerry Zucker Middle School of Science honors the memory of industrialist, inventor, and philanthropist Jerry Zucker (1949–2008). Born in Israel to parents who survived the Holocaust, Zucker grew up in South Carolina and other states, settling and raising his family in Charleston. As CEO of the InterTech Group, a conglomerate producing plastics and fabrics, a part owner of the South Carolina Sting Rays Hockey Team, and holder of more than 350 patents, Zucker was known far and wide for his gifts to medical, educational, and Jewish charities and causes. The middle school held its grand opening on August 28, 2009, a few days after what would have been his 60th birthday.
