A. Blum

8 Liberty Street

A September 20, 1920, article in the Charleston Evening Post advised readers that “A strictly kosher restaurant and boarding house will be opened to the public at 8 Liberty Street on Sunday Sept. 22, under supervision of Rabbi E. Horowitz. Your patronage is cordially solicited. A. Blum.” Born in Warsaw, Emil Horowitz (1870–1923), who supervised the business, is buried at the Brith Sholom Beth Israel Cemetery on Huguenin Avenue. The site of Blum’s restaurant is now part of the College of Charleston’s dormitory complex.
