Louis Cohen Family

128 Wentworth Street

This spacious dwelling was the home of the Louis Cohen family in the late nineteenth century. Louis Cohen and his wife, Cecilie Bentschner (1831–1894), whose brother, David, was also a King Street retail merchant (see 252 King Street), lived here with several of their grown children: Isaac, Moultrie, and Bluhma. Isaac S. Cohen was a banker, while Moultrie J. Cohen (died 1899) and Bluhma’s husband, Lee (Levy) Loeb, worked with the family business, Louis Cohen & Co., 232–234 King Street. Another son, Isadore B. Cohen, had worked with the firm until his death in 1894, and a fourth, William B. Cohen, lived nearby (see 37 Smith Street)
